Instapurge: Instagram Deletes Millions of Fake Spam Accounts, Many Celebs Affected

 

 

Bad news especially for those who buy followers on Instagram because the photo-sharing app just recently deleted millions of fake spam accounts, which decreased the follower count of many celebrities. This event is dubbed as “Instapurge”. Those who lost a massive number of followers were angered by such occurrence, especially those who use the app in a legitimate manner.

Similar to what Facebook has been doing in the past, Instagram routinely deletes accounts to control spam and to prevent users from buying followers to appear popular. Facebook is Instagram’s parent company.

Instagram itself lost about 29% of its followers, now having 45,251,017 from 64,131,228 previously. Second to Instagram, Justin Bieber, who has over 23 million followers previously, lost over 3.5 million followers after the purge.

Other celebrities in the top 10 are Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift, Khloe Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner. They lost 3% to 7% follower count, which ranges between 700,000 to 1.5 million followers.

A user named chiragchirag78 is the biggest loser in terms of percentage. The said user lost 99.9998% of followers, going from 3,660,468 to only 8 followers. The account has been deleted since.
