Red Hot Chili Peppers Rocked the 7107 International Music Festival!

When in Manila and you are a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you must have been one of the thousands of people who trooped to the Global Gateway Logistics City in Clark for the 7107 International Music Festival on February 22 and 23. The 7107 IMF is the first music festival in the country of such scale, having over 50 musicians, including 13 of the hottest foreign acts. The festival was headlined by rock and roll legends Red Hot Chili Peppers and house DJ Kaskade. They were joined by Empire of the Sun, Kendrick Lamar, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Natives, DJ Riddler, Reid Stefan, Kid Ink, Alvaro, Scarlet Heroes, and Luciana. The lineup is an impressive mix of pop, rock, hip-hop, and EDM.

Aside from the foreign acts, the 7107 IMF also had some of the best local acts, who proved that they rocked as hard as the foreign imports. The local acts were: Up Dharma Down, Radioactive Sago Project, Sponge Cola, Pulso, The Ringmaster, She’s Only Sixteen, Yolanda Moon, Runmanila, Jensen & The Flips, Maude, Abra & Loonie, DJ B-Cal, DJ Ron Poe, Nix Dam P, Encounters with a Yeti, Runway Crimes, Rocksteddy, Cheats, Itchyworms, Musical O, Sleepwalk Circus, Hidden Nikki, Skymarines, Child/ren of the Pilgrimage, The Charmes, Popular Days, The Sleepyheads, Not Another Boy Band, Wilderness, Taken By Cars, She’s Only Sixteen, Techy Romantics, Keith Bryan Haw, Marc Marasigan, Aryan, Travis Monsod, Katsy Lee, Carlo Atendido, Patrick Po, Jessica Milner, Motherbasss, and Skratchmark.

The 7107 International Music Festival promised to be a world-class production with the people behind the Super Bowl halftime show, the Oscars, the Grammys, Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, and Lollapalooza managing the festival. And boy, they did not disappoint. The two stages were designed impeccably, symbolizing Pinoy pride through the rays of the sun, the Philippine eagle, and the tamaraw horns. The sounds were top-notch, the video screens great. Surprisingly, the festival did not experience any problems with scheduling. All the acts, including the international artists, started and ended on time. The Chili Peppers were only five minutes late. Even the fireworks, an impressive display of lights and sound, started at exactly midnight.

All in all, the 7107 IMF went like clockwork. The turnout was formidable, the acts were diverse enough for every musical taste (the writer tremendously enjoyed Empire of the Sun, and discovered Luciana), the food choices were many, there was enough water, and portalets were everywhere. The writer only had to wait seven minutes before he got to use the toilet. Even the 7107 IMF app was accurate.

Below are some of the highlights of the 7107 International Music Festival:

By the time the Chili Peppers entered the stage, everybody went ballistic. Everybody flocked to the first stage and sang along to the rock group. They officially closed the two-day 7107 IMF with a banging encore. They sang their hits Dani California, Californication, Otherside, and Snow. They ended their set with Give It Away.
