As a future Human Resources professional, do you know how you can prevail despite the emergence of various technologies? Discover the answer to this question by attending the seminar, “IMPERIUM: HR’s Chase for Dominance in an Automated Age,” which will be held at the Claro M. Recto Hall, located in the 6th Floor of Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ (PUP) Academic Building. The event will take place on February 28.2017 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

The seminar was organized by PUP’s BSBA-HRDM 4-2N students and it will discuss how HR students can dominate the field amidst the corporate digitization. Various technological innovations are rising and, as a result, the responsibilities that often fall on HR employees in entry level positions are performed by machines instead. This can be problematic for fresh HR graduates.

To aid future HR professionals, PUP’s HRDM students invited experts in the field to help answer the following questions:

How do we make technological developments our ally, not our foe?

How can we, future HR practitioners, best prepare ourselves in order to be better than any technological advancement?

What are our advantages and distinct skills that technology cannot copy or replace?

An article written by Tom Watson titled, “When Robots Do All the Work, How Will People Live?” was published in the Guardian. Watson, who is a Labor MP for West Bromwich, wrote, “Technology is bringing profound, unstoppable change to society. It is vital that government faces this and comes up with a new industrial strategy.” PUP’s HRDM students believe that this topic is very interesting to explore. Furthermore, they believe that, aside from the government, this is an issue that students, especially those who will be graduate soon, need to familiarize themselves with. After all, acknowledging the current situation and equipping one’s self with the necessary knowledge and strategies needed to take on the automated world is not just smart, it is essential.

To help enlighten the delegates, PUP’s HRDM students chose three HR experts: The first speaker they invited is Mr. Darwin Rivers, who has more than 18 years of experience in the in the field of Human Resources. Currently, Mr. Rivers is working as a Sr. Manager for Human Resources at United Health Group. The second speaker is Mr. Gerald Santos, who is currently working as an Adviser of Junior People Management Association of the Philippines at Global Reciprocal College – Caloocan City. The last speaker is Ms. Eunice R. Sakay, who is working as Sr. Recruitment Officer for Talent Market Strategy and Acquisition Department, People Group of Smart Communications Inc.
