How to Write Publish-Worthy Feature Pieces

Feature Writing 101 (2017)

Good writing has the power to inform, influence and move people. But with the clutter in what we see and read, it’s harder to decipher what good writing is. โ€œFeature Writing 101โ€ will give you the fundamentals of feature writing that will make your writing stand out.

Facilitating the workshop will be Ana P. Santos and Nikka Sarthou-Lainez of Writerโ€™s Block Philippines (WBP), an organizationย dedicated to empowering writers, communicators, and creative entrepreneurs. Seven years, dozens of workshops, and hundreds of participants later, WBP continues to motivate writers to pursue their passion.

โ€œThose still trying to find their writer’s voice would best benefit from this particular workshop,โ€ shares Santos, a journalist who focuses on women and gender issues.ย She is a regular columnist inย Rapplerย and as the 2014 Persephone Miel Fellow for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, her work on labor migration has been published inย Theย Atlanticย andย The Washington Post.

โ€œWeโ€™ll be discussing the different kinds of feature articles and how to put more oomph in your stories. Weโ€™re proud to say that some of our past participants have already been published thatโ€™s why weโ€™ll have another run of this workshop,โ€ says Sarthou-Lainez, a full-time freelance writer who was chosen as one of the five Asian representatives for Moleskineโ€™s Modern Nomads in 2012.

Registration is now open for โ€œFeature Writing 101โ€ happening on July 1, 2017, Saturday, 1:00 to 6:00 PM in Fully Booked, Bonifacio Global City. For inquiries and reservations, email writersblock.ph@gmail.comย or contact 0917.397.9927. Visitย www.writersblockphilippines.comย for more details.
