How I Financed and Planned My Eurotrip as a 21-Year-Old Filipina

TIPS FOR YOUR EUROTRIP

  • Wear the most comfortable shoes in the world.

Don’t be like me who did “tiis ganda” while in Prague. I cried for hours because I wore cute flats instead of walking shoes. If you’re traveling, expect a lot of walking and sightseeing. Walking shoes might look a bit “badly”, but I would choose that over bleeding feet. Trust me: it’s a mistake I’ll never do again.

  • Pee whenever you can.

In the Philippines, some restrooms charge Php5 for peeing and Php10 for doing the deed. In Europe, it costs EUR1 or Php52! Kaloka! In Venice, use of toilets costs EUR2 or Php104! Chickenjoy na ‘yan, bes! So, I suggest peeing at home while you can or do it all in one go. HAHAHA, I don’t know if that tip will help.

  • Get pocket Wi-Fi.

Instead of buying a sim card and using data, I suggest renting a pocket wifi. I got mine from My-Webspot.com and it was fantastic. I Skyped with my mom while on the train, did Facebook live while in Amsterdam, and also blogged while on the bus. It costs EUR9.90 or Php515 and you can access a very. very fast Internet anywhere in Europe! I also used a code “EUROPECONNECT” to avail of a discount. I loved it because I could access Google Maps everywhere! That’s a must because I’m bad with directions.

  • Paris has a lot of scam artists.

They’re everywhere doing all sorts of modus! If you see someone playing a card game at the street and it seems as though you can win the game easily, don’t bet on it. The dumb player you’re seeing and the one leading the game know each other and they’re just acting to attract you. Avoid these kinds of modus! Also, even though French guys look cute, be very wary of your belongings on their public transpo.

  • Enjoy the trip.

Yes, don’t be a one-day millionaire, but don’t starve yourself while you’re in Europe, either. You’re there to have fun and not to compute how much you’ve spent. Set a budget but don’t be too hard on yourself if you go overboard. You can earn money again as soon as your vacation ends, but those memories will always last!

INSPIRING PEOPLE

I don’t inspire people to travel; I aim to inspire them to achieve their dreams. Traveling might not be your dream and that’s okay. Whether it’s getting a degree or job that you’ve been wanting, I will say that YOU CAN DO IT! A year ago, I never thought I would be in Europe this young, but I believed in myself and did whatever was required to make it come true.

I did a talk for the scholar of 2KK (Tulong Sa Kapwa Kapatid) from Payatas, Escopa, and Sampaloc on how to make money, save money, and chase their dreams. I know that I still have a long way to go, but I already consider myself successful because I never quit despite all the hardships. I want others to learn how to be a tough cookie, too!
