The House of Representatives approved House Bill 4113 on the second reading to increase the number of maternity leaves from the current 60 days (78 days for caesarian deliveries) to 100 with pay.

However, this is in contrary to the Senate version of 120 days.

Earlier, the Senate passed its own version of the bill which seeks to increase the number maternity leaves with pay to 120 and proposes an additional 30 days for solo working mothers.

The bill also seeks to prohibit employers from demoting or decreasing the pay of a female employee on maternity leave.

Still, this bill has a long way to go before becoming a law.
