“Honor Thy Father” Disqualified from MMFF 2015 Award for Best Picture

In a now-deleted post, Director Erik Matti posted a photo on his Instagram account showing a screenshot of a letter addressed to the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Honor Thy Father producer Ronald Monteverde from Atty. Emerson Carlos, overall chairman of MMFF. The letter declares the disqualification of the film Honor Thy Father from the selection of the Best Picture award category of the MMFF 2015 Awards.

The photo is captioned:
“What is this? Tinatanggal na nga kami sa mga sinehan and now this? #honorthyfather #mmff2015”

The chairman states that the disqualification is brought about by the “non-diclosure” of the film’s appearance to the recently held Cinema One Originals Festival 2015 as an opening film. MMFF is also under fire for early pull out of the film from most cinemas. Meanwhile, netizens are reacting to this issue on Twitter with the hashtag #MMFF2015Scandal.
