HIRAYA Arts and Music Festival

With the rising popularity of the hipster subculture, it’s no shocker that the popularity of music festivals have risen alongside it. After all, what’s the essence of being a hipster if it weren’t open fields, indie music, and a ton of analog (or analog-style — thanks Instagram) pictures?

Lo and behold — the popularity catches on in Manila. Just within the past six months, the Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival, Fete dela Musique, and the Manila Music Festival caused a frenzy, and gave hipsters all around the country something to live for (and flood their Instagram feeds with).

On August 18, another music festival is hitting the scene, this time by the UP Junior Marketing Association Publicity Event and Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, STATUS, Yabang Pinoy, Francis M Clothing Co., PULP, Deeper Manila, and Sari-sari Sounds. Happening in the open field along 34th and 9th streets in Bonifacio Global City (beside Mercato Centrale), Hiraya is a Department of Tourism-supported arts and music festival aiming to showcase the brightest local talents.

The musical line-up boasts of performances by indie pop-alternative ensemble Ang Bandang Shirley, lo-fi crooners Bee Eyes, electro virtuoso SimilarObjects, ambient spins and funky projections by Midnight Aviators, neo-jazz quintet Extrapolation, indie sweethearts Ash Keachum, bass music artisan InkEyes, and many more.

The fest also features a live art installation by street artists SYLV, Uniko-Indio, and Wrapo, as well as dance performances by cultural dance troupe Lahing Batangan, and hiphop crews Soulstice, and Legit Status.

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free until 9 p.m., with entrance fee of P50 for the succeeding hours. For VIP tickets, contact Bea at 0918 925 7879 or Denise at 0917 501 4199. Visit facebook.com/upjmahiraya for more details.
