Here’s Why You Should Dye Your Hair Red This Summer

Words by Kelly Punzalan

I’m sure every girl has at least once in their life redirected their emotions from a bad break-up or bad life experience into a new hairstyle. I certainly have. Around this time last year, I was going through an early quarter-life crisis and was also wrestling with an identity crisis. So what healthy solution did I come up with? Cut my hair and dye it a crazy color, of course. It’s the only logical answer.

I’ve always wanted to try the “wild, rocker chick” look and no color screams wild more than red does. If you’ve been wanting to be more adventurous with your hair, now is a great time to do it! Red is an absolutely perfect color for the summertime, and here’s why.

Red looks good on all skin tones.

As a morena woman, it’s hard for me to find colors that flatter my skin tone. Some shades of brown wash me out and I seriously envy girls who can pull off blonde hair. Anyone can look amazing in red, though, since it complements both fair and dark skin.

You’ll stand out in photos.

Everyone will soon be posting their own beach and pool photos on social media, and the beach is actually the best place to show off your new hairstyle and channel your inner Ariel! Red looks amazing in the sun, and all eyes will be on you in group shots.

It will build your confidence.

Red is a very eye-catching color and I’m not going to lie, you’ll probably attract a lot of attention. There will be people who give prolonged stares (rude!), won’t take you seriously, and will write you off as a wild child. But then there are those people who will smile at you, look at you in awe, and tell you how much they love your hair. I learned not to be bothered by the attention and in turn, grew my confidence and self-esteem. The many compliments I got from strangers certainly didn’t hurt either.
