Angel Locsin had a few things to say to all those accusing her of criticizing Sarah Geronimo, among many other celebrities, for staying silent amid political issues especially after Congress has denied a fresh franchise for the ABS-CBN Network which is home to many of the most popular actors and actresses in the showbiz industry.
In a comment on Instagram, Angel expressed happiness over Sarah’s public statement which the pop star posted early Sunday morning. “Nagsalita si Sarah. Iniisip ng tao pinaparinggan ko s’ya, pero hindi eh. I know how ‘pure’ she is,” she said. “Wala s’yang social media, alam rin natin hindi s’ya vocal sa maraming bagay bilang ang bait. Pero nagsalita siya. At nakakatuwa ‘yun.”
[“Sarah already spoke up. People are thinking I was taking a swipe at her, but I wasn’t. I know how ‘pure’ she is. She doesn’t have social media, we know she isn’t vocal about many things because of how nice she is. But she spoke up. And that’s wonderful.”]
She also sent out a message to the singer on her Instagram stories. “Thank you, Sarah G. Mahal kita (I love you),” she wrote.
It was during a noise barrage for ABS-CBN on Saturday, July 18, when Angel made an impassioned speech calling out showbiz stars for not using their platforms to speak out against the injustices happening around them.
“Sa lahat ng artistang hindi nagsasalita, ano? May career pa ba kayo? Wala na, wala na kayong network,” she had said. “Kahit magpa-cute kayo diyan sa Instagram, mag-send kayo ng mga sad face — hindi niyo nadadamayan ang mga katrabaho niyong dahilan kung bakit kayo sumikat.”
[“To all the artists who aren’t speaking out, what now? Do you still have a career? You have none now, you now have no network. Even if you act cute on Instagram, send sad faces — you don’t empathize with your colleagues who helped you become famous.”]
