Under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, 18 million low-income households are entitled to an emergency subsidy from P5,000 to P8,000 a month for April and May. If all goes well, vulnerable sectors of society who have lost their jobs due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will have access to cash aid that will help them sustain themselves while in isolation.

As of yesterday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has turned over P73.7 billion to various local government units (LGUs). On Facebook, the DSWD has posted updates on the various regions and cities that they have transferred to.

For example, 3,264 families in Samar received P5,000 each over the weekend. Meanwhile, 1,989 families in Carmen, Cebu received a total of P11,934,000 combined.

In CALABARZON, the DSWD has been giving cash aid for the past two weeks and the DSWD IV-A Facebook page regularly posts updates. Today, the department has given the subsidy for residents in Batangas, Laguna, Quezon Province, Rizal Province, and Cavite.

To qualify, families must be part of the low-income sector with at least one member belonging to the informal economy, thus losing access to their source of income due to the quarantine. Examples of qualified individuals are members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), contracted and subcontracted workers, homeworkers, house helpers, drivers, farmers, and more.
