Philhealth Insurance Corp. (Philhealth) has announced the new rates that they will be covering for COVID-19 hospitalization starting April 15. They previously said that until April 14, Philhealth will be shouldering all the costs of COVID-19 hospitalization.
Starting April 15, the new rates for that they will be covering are as follows:
- Mild pneumonia – P43,997
- Moderate pneumonia – P143,267
- Severe pneumonia – P333,519
- Critical pneumonia – P786,38

PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales said that package rates are categorized as pneumonia because it is the complication that results from contracting COVID-19. Though Philhealth has previously shouldered all costs of hospitalization, Morales points out that “The PhilHealth fund is sufficient, but it’s not unlimited. That’s why we have to exercise due prudence.”
As of writing, there have been 4,076 reported cases of COVID-19 in the Philipines, with 203 deaths and 124 recoveries.
