It’s indeed an honor to be invited once again, at one of my favorite annual events, the search for the BEST PINOY STREET FOOD 2015 by SM Hypermarket.
Today, I joined the SM Hypermarket team, along with the 30 Semi finalists composed of home cooks, streetfood vendors and eatery owners and traveled all the way from SM Mall of Asia to Cavite at Chef Boy Logro’s Institute of Culinary Kitchen Services (CLICKS) as official venue for the semi-final round.
Aside from meeting the new contestants, it was also great to see last year’s winner Mr. Jones Guevarra and grand finalist Herks Umali. I was also fortunate enough to be given time to interview them and it sure was great to know that their respective careers have been doing really well after joining last year….
The Top 30 semifinalists that were picked from SM Hypermarkets around Metro Manila met for a cooking showdown to determine the top 10 finalists that will join the final cook off on Nov 19 at SM Sucat. The grand winner of The Best Pinoy Street Food 2015 will win his/her own food stall at SM Hypermarket with FREE rent for 1 year plus P100,000!
For this afternoon’s semi-final cook off round, the 30 talented semi finalists were grouped into 6 teams each with 5 members.
Before the competition, Kusina Master Chef Boy Logro demonstrated his expert food carving techniques and also taught them how to make today’s official recipe, Stir Fried Seafood in Crystal Noodle Basket.
After the demos by Chef Boy Logro, they all went to SM Hypermarket Molino to shop for the needed ingredients that was limited to only 15 minutes. After shopping, they all came back to Chef Boy Logro’s Institute of Culinary Kitchen Services (CLICKS) to cook their required contest recipe for only 1 hour. Only 2 groups will win this round, and its members will officially become the 10 grand finalists who will join the final cook off on November 19 at SM Sucat.
After the judges tasted all 6 entries they decided that the 2 best groups that will proceed to the final round are teams 3Â and 5!
