Summer is officially here! Although you might not exactly feel the summer vibes because of the enhanced community quarantine in the Metro, the intense heat felt even from the inside of our homes is a sure sign of it.
It may be a bit hard to find ways to refresh yourselves from home, but we’ve got good news. Despite their presence in La Union and in Power Plant Mall being temporary closed, Makai Bowls remains open for delivery in Metro Manila during these uncertain times.
Makai Bowls has been serving their tasty treats for several years now. The brand started with a simple concept to offer healthy snack options after a day at the beach. Since they couldn’t find anything like that back then, they took it upon themselves to create something new, refreshing, and healthy. And now, they have decided to offer deliveries around Metro Manila during the quarantine!
At first, they started with only three flavors; but over time, they added seasonal fruits like strawberries and avocados. Then they added fresh shakes until their menu grew. They also make it a point not to add ice or water to their smoothies (except for their shakes, for obvious reasons). They don’t use sweeteners, either, with the exception of raw honey in one of their smoothie bowls. This is because they want to focus on clean and less processed foods.
Point Smoothie Bowl (Php295) – strawberry, mango, papaya, banana, beets, and acai juice
They recently had a pop-up store at Power Plant Mall in Rockwell; but while we are stuck at home for the meantime, they have adjusted to satisfy our cravings all the same. More than ever, now is the best time to get yourself nourished with healthy and delicious food that will bring back memories of the beach and dreams of a better tomorrow. Although we won’t be able to enjoy the surf, sun, and sand for a while; the least we can do is have something that is sweet and is equally satisfying.
Beach Break Smoothie Bowl (Php265) – moringa, banana, mango, pineapple, spirulina, coconut water
Don’t know what to order? All of their offerings are really good, but we’d personally recommend the Point Smoothie Bowl and their bestselling Beach Break Smoothie Bowl. Don’t be fooled if you think you won’t get full from their products. Their smoothie bowls are actually packed and will easily fill you up without that super bloated feeling.
Acai Fruit Parfait (Php250) – acai smoothie, coconut chia, all natural Greek yogurt topped with handmade granola, and seasonal fruits
If you want something a little different, the Acai Fruit Parfait might hit the spot. Try their Mango Shack Shake (Php150), too. You might want to order their cold brew coffee, too, which is only available here in Manila.
