Health Secretary Duque Says He’ll Resign After DOH Is “Cleared” From COA Findings

Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a radio interview with DZBB that he plans to resign from his post after addressing the Commission on Audit’s findings of deficiencies in handling the department’s funds for COVID-19 response.

He said in the August 28 interview that it’s “a matter of time” and asks for some time to fix the observations and findings of COA on the Department of Health.

The Secretary also revealed that President Duterte is already aware of his plans to resign.

On Tuesday, President Duterte says that he still will not fire the official, but will accept his resignation should he do so.

Earlier this month, The Department of Health was under fire after reports of the Commission on Audit revealed deficiencies in the management of PHP 67 billion for the pandemic response. The public has been calling on Duque’s resignation since then.
