“Grey’s Anatomy” Will Be Back For Season 18!

Grey’s Anatomy fans, we have great news for you: the hit show will be back for another season!

Last year, Ellen Pompeo (who plays Meredith Grey), told Variety“We don’t know when the show is really ending yet. But the truth is, this year could be it.”

In the same interview, the actress revealed that her contract was set to expire that year. This seems to tie in with what show creator Shonda Rhimes told E! News in 2017: “Ellen and I have a pact that I’m going to do the show as long as she’s going to do the show.”

Then just this March, showrunner Krista Vernoff described the process of making season 17 to the Hollywood Reporter, “I’m planning a season and a finale that could function as either a season finale or a series finale. I’m planning for both contingencies and it’s hard and it’s not ideal. It’s not where I wish we were. … Either there will be closure or I will build something in that allows me to have a bit of a cliffhanger and a thread for next season.”

But as we said in our title, Grey’s Anatomy will be back, back, back!

ABC, the network that airs the show, announced that they will be renewing the show “at least through Season 18.”

Variety has also confirmed that not only is Pompeo returning, but original cast members Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are also set to return.

With Pompeo’s new contract, she remains the highest-paid female actor on television.

Grey’s Anatomy follows the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings as they become seasoned doctors. The series also shows how they balance their personal and professional relationships. It has been recognized by different award-giving bodies, including 38 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

To date, Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history. The show is currently airing its 17th season.
