Grease Manila: Enjoy Summer Lovin’ in December!
After being voted as last year’s Most Outstanding Production of an Existing Material for a Musical at PHILSTAGE Gawad Buhay Awards, Grease Manila is back to continue the summer lovin’!
Leading the pack is Guji Lorenzana as Danny Zuko and Tippy Dos Santos as Sandy Dumbrowski.
Tippy Dos Santos isn’t shabby at all in the female lead role for Grease Manila. Previously known for her theater projects and music collaborations with local artists, she has stepped up a notch. Wait til you see her perform ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’.
Guji Lorenzana also stepped up his game as he fills in the shoes of last year’s Danny, Gian Magdangal. Guji said that it feels really good to go back to his first love: theater.
Last year’s Kenickie, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, is back on-stage.
Antoinette Taus, Kenickie’s partner, was very good in portraying the bad girl and even chugged on this bottle of liquor.
Alexandra Godinez who plays Marty is a head-turner. She was very beautiful on-stage and her aura shone through her character.
Grease Manila mainstays Sarah Facun and Reb Atadero were one big ball of energy. They injected a lot of humor into the play and reinvented their characters the way they learned to in Grease’s previous run.
The best parts of Grease, though, are the choreography and the live music played by a band on-stage. The choreography is actually one of the best that I’ve seen in a theatre musical thus far.
In the preview show of Grease, we learned some of the dance moves, which were pretty hard. It’s amazing that the new cast was able to learn them all with only a month to rehearse for opening night.
Grease Manila will be on-stage at the CPR Auditorium, RCBC Plaza until December 7.
Grease Manila is Directed by Robbie Guevarra.
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
Film Songs by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.
Presented by 9 Works Theatrical.
