Gov’t raises health systems capacity, can run 1,500 tests daily in Taguig

Government officials led by Health Secretary Francisco Duque and National Task Force Deputy Chief Implementer Secretary Vince Dizon opened for inspection the tent at Enderun Colleges which is one of the four mega swabbing testing centers in Metro Manila.

They were joined by Mayor Lino Cayetano, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano, and National Action Plan Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr.

With 54 testing booths, the facility is capable of conducting 1,500 tests daily once it becomes fully operational. It will be manned by the Armed Forces of the Philippine Medical Corps.

“This facility will add to our capacity to test first iyong mga OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) dito sa Metro Manila para madala na natin sila sa kanilang mga probinsya,” Sec. Lorenzana said.

Enderun Colleges released a statement last May 1 confirming their voluntary participation to make its tent a testing facility to help returning OFWs get tested for COVID-19. Given this, faculty and students are not expected to be on campus due to the enforced Enhance Community Quarantine, and none of the school’s staff will be expected to be involved with the testing.

During the press briefing, Sec. Galvez stated that the testing capability nationwide started with only three laboratories last January which now increased to 22. He also explained that they are expediting the accreditation of additional 50 laboratories within the month.

Sec. Lorenzana expressed his appreciation to Sec. Dizon and Mayor Cayetano, to the health workers and encoders from the AFP, and the PNP for putting up the facility as this will add to the capacity to test the OFWs.

The other mega swabbing facilities are the Palacio de Maynila in Roxas Boulevard, Mall of Asia arena in Pasay City, and the Philippine Sports Stadium inside the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
