In just a few weeks, Rabiya Mateo will be representing the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
Gloria Diaz, the first Filipina to win the title in 1969, shared her thoughts on Mateo’s chances in the upcoming competition.
During the virtual presscon of her film Mommy Issues, she said, “Maganda naman si Rabiya talaga.” [“Rabiya is pretty.”]
When asked her opinion if Mateo has a chance, Diaz responded, “I can never tell, but she is really deserving.”
Diaz added, “Maganda siya. Actually, ang dami kong nakikitang photos niya and she seems to be a very nice girl.” [“She’s pretty. Actually, I’ve seen a lot of her photos and she seems to be a very nice girl.”]
If Mateo wins, she will be the fifth Filipina to win the title following Diaz, Margie Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), and Catriona Gray (2018).
The 69th edition of the Miss Universe will be held in Florida on May 16, 2021, or May 17 in Philippine time.
