Disney recently announced that they are opening an audition for a Filipina ‘Lola’ or grandmother.
The film they are casting for is set to shoot in Atlanta Giorgia in February 2021. According to their announcement, they are looking for a Female of 50-90 years old. They can be Filipino or Filipino-American and must be fluent in English.
Though the applicant is not required to have acting experience, many have automatically th0ught of Filipina Actress Gina Pareño for the role. She is known by many as ‘Lola Gets’ or the name of the character she played in the TV Series ‘Tayong Dalawa’ back in 2009.

In an exclusive interview with wheninmanila.com, Gina Pareño’s team is preparing to shoot her audition video. They are also figuring out if they will be able to follow through with the travel requirements if given the opportunity. The selected applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S., either with U.S. Citizenship, a Green Card holder, or an 0-1 visa holder.
“Sabi nga sakin ng mga anak ko may casting search daw. Syempre napa Wow Disney ako! Eh hindi ko pa rin naman alam ang role, at saka pwede na ba akong mag travel abroad?” Gina Pareño said.
When asked if she would be interested, she replied “Syempre opportunity yan! Ma re-represent ulit ang mga Filipina Lola sa buong mundo! ILUVIT! Sabi ko nga sa anak kong si Raquel, mag send ka din ng video. Eh kaka-birthday lang nya at 50 na sya. Kaya pasok na pasok!”
Gina Pareño’s daughter is also an actress who just turned 50-years old Raquel Pareño will also send an application for the role.
When Raquel found out about the casting call she excitedly said “Gusto ko yan! Sabi ng anak ko, kayang kaya ko daw yun. Why not di ba?”
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, may US Visa naman ako. Mag send lang tayo ng audition video. Tingnan lang natin”, she added.
There are many speculations that the role is for Spider-Man 3 that is shooting in Atlanta. The character can be in relation to Ned (Spider-man’s best friend) who is played by Filipino-American Jacob Batalon.
