Gerald Anderson bared his honest thoughts on marriage as he looked back on his relationship with Julia Barretto.

In a vlog posted by broadcast journalist Bernadette Sembrano on YouTube, Gerald was asked if he has plans to settle down and marry his long-time girlfriend.
“Ang hirap kasi sagutin syempre kasi kailangan kami yung magkausap about that (It’s hard to answer, of course, because we need to be the ones talking about that),” he responded.
But then, he firmly said: “But does she have the qualities, does she have everything na hinahanap sa isang asawa (I look for in a wife)? Of course.”
The 35-year-old actor added that they are still learning a lot from each other, expressing that he knows that Julia is “the one” for him.
“Because nagagawa ko lahat ng kailangan kong gawin, from my work, in the industry, business, basketball, Coast Guard duties, nagagawa ko lahat ’yun because of [the] support na binibigay niya sakin. Undying support. Du’n pa lang eh (Because I can do everything I need to—my work in the industry, business, basketball, Coast Guard duties—I can manage all of that because of the support she gives me. Undying support. That alone means so much),” he shared.
“If you love someone, you’re willing to adjust and support, at ’yun ’yung nagagawa namin sa isa’t isa (that’s what we do for each other),” he added.
For the PBB alumna, being in a relationship meant bringing the best out of each other — and that’s how their relationship lasted longer.
“I think ‘yun yung point ng isang relationship, lalo na kapag mag-aasawa ka dahil pang-habang-buhay na yan eh, you want to make sure na positive kayo. Although syempre may mga fights, may mga ups and downs, but kung paano niyo i-work out ‘yung mga hindi magandang moments sa isang relationship (I think that’s the point of a relationship, especially when you’re getting married because it’s for a lifetime—you want to make sure that you stay positive. Of course, there will be fights and ups and downs, but it’s about how you work through the challenging moments in a relationship),” he said.
Previously, the actor was asked about his plans to marry the Un/Happy For You actress, responding that he wanted the 27-year-old star to enjoy her single life first and focus on her priorities.
“Of course. Five years na kami. But itong moment na ‘to, ‘yung moment niya ngayon, let her enjoy. Huwag nating madaliin (Of course, we’ve been together for five years. But this is her moment right now, let her enjoy. Let’s not rush things),” he responded.
In early November, Gerald was promoted to auxiliary captain in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), where he discussed his plans for improving the efficiency of search and rescue missions during calamities. Months prior to his promotion, he was also awarded the “Search and Rescue Medal” by the PCG.
The actor previously went viral when he helped rescue a family stranded during Super Typhoon Carina, earning applause from social media users as he braved heavy floods and used an inflatable pool for his rescue efforts.
