GAMEFEST 2016: The Biggest Game Development Summit in the Philippines

Now on its seventh year, the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) has teamed up with Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit as one of the biggest Esport competition and gaming convention in Southeast Asia. This event will be held on Oct 28-30, 2016 in SMX Convention Center Halls 1 to 3, Ground Level.  GameFest continues to be one of the largest and one of the most anticipated gathering of the gaming industry’s experts, developers, enthusiasts, students, educators, organizations and stakeholders. This initiative aims to promote the spirit of game development and creation among the youth, hobbyist and professionals alike, in addition the event also ensures the continuous creation of ideas and developers that will liven the local ecosystem to work and grow.

This year, we are expecting more than 15,000 participants to attend the 3-day event and it will be an exciting event as most game developers and animation studios as well as prominent game development schools will be joining as exhibitors such as Wacom, Redfox, Synergy88 Digital, Kooapps, GameOps Inc, Top Draw Animation, Fandom  Inc, Stream Engine Studios, Funguy Studio, A Dish Int’l, Gamenomnom, Top Peg Animation and Creative Studios, Payoneer, Asia Pacific College, DLS–CSB, FEU institute of Technology, iAcademy and Yang Yang Mobile. These studios and schools join the major exhibitors at ESGS such as Playstation, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Super Evil Megacorp, Spark Jumpers, Kalaro Games, Secret 6 and much more at the Indie Arena.

GameFest will be at the Business and Academic hall wherein one of the anticipated competitions that will happen which is Game On with support from Redfox, wherein students and professionals will be able to test out games. This competition is a stepping stone for students and industry game developers to get mileage for their hard work as well as it aims to encourage students and schools to start developing games and look to becoming future game developers which embody the best of Filipino talent.

Another exciting event will be the Digital Art Competition which is sponsored by Wacom. It has both student and freelance category which aims to show how Filipinos are talented in 3D animation using the Zbrush Core program with the Intuos Tablet. This competition aims to unleash an artist’s creativity and skills to the next level with Wacom’s leading pen and touch technology and creative software. Wacom will be giving away their Wacom Intous and Wacom Intous Pro to the winners of this competition.

Of course, a lot of people are also looking forward for the workshops as speakers from Payoneer, Unity 3D, Ubisoft, Indigo Entertainment, Mike Studios, Altitude games, Just Another Indie, Springloaded games, Squeaky Wheel Studio, GameOps, Nuworks, Zeenoh games, DLS-CSB, Gamenomnom and Colorswitch Creator, David Reichelt.
