“Futurama” is Returning… as a Single-Episode Podcast

Futurama Podcast

One of our favorite series from the late ’90s to the early ’00s is Futurama, which follows the adventures of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy who is unwittingly cryogenically frozen and wakes up in the 31st century. There, he joins Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery company. The series ended in 2013, but the science fiction will be back… as a single-episode podcast.

The best part is that everyone will return, from creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen to the cast, composed of Fry, Bender, Leela, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Amy, and Hermes. In the podcast, they will meet the villain Klaxxon, “a nefarious life form composed entirely of soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts.” Fry and his team must stop Klaxxon from destroying Earth with his deadly soundwaves.

Futurama debuted in 1999 to critical and commercial success. It aired until 2003 and won six out of its 12 Emmy nominations. In 2007, Comedy Central revived the show with 84 new episodes. It aired its last episode in 2013.

A mobile game called Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow was launched earlier this year.

The Futurama podcast will be available on September 14 on The Nerdist, Spotify, and Soundcloud for free.
