Frozen is Headed to Broadway!

There was a time in our lives when we couldn’t go through a day without listening to Frozen‘s “Let It Go.” After a few rounds on the videoke and pressing the repeat button on YouTube, our love thawed and we moved on to the next Disney movie (Big Hero 6). But for those who miss the adventures of Elsa and Anna, we have great news: Frozen is headed to Broadway!

Disney announced the news on Twitter, saying: “It’s official: #Frozen is coming to Broadway!” The show will premiere in spring 2018, joining other Disney movies like The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin, who have transitioned to the stage.

The musical will feature music and lyrics by by songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez, the Fil-Am EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner who also wrote the music for the film. The story will be based on a book written by Frozen‘s screenwriter Jennifer Lee. The musical adaptation will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winners Alex Timbers and Peter Darling, respectively.

The Frozen musical will have a pre-Broadway tryout at the at the Buell Theatre in Denver in August 2017.

The creative team is composed of seasoned theater veterans, who have worked for Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Billy Elliott, Matilda, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, and Wicked.
