Are you hoping to make a difference for Mother Earth? Have you been using metal straws and bringing eco bags with you to the supermarket with hopes of helping our environment? Well, with Freitag, you can take things up an even bigger notch.
In case you haven’t heard of Freitag yet, the brand makes use of upcycled materials to create stylish bags that don’t just look good, but also make for a great conversational piece, not only because they give used materials from the European transit routes a next life, but also because every bag is a one-off.
The brand was born in 1993 when graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag looked for functional, water-repellent, and robust bags to hold their creative work. Inspired by the multicolored heavy traffic in front of their apartment in Zurich, the Freitag brothers created a messenger bag out of used truck tarpaulins, car seat belts, and discarded bicycle inner tubes and car seat belts. Since then, they have been creating unique recycled bags that should definitely become a part of everyone’s daily arsenal.
With over 40 different bag models of different styles, sizes, and colors now under their belt – and just as many accessories like wallets, notebook sleeves and pouches – Freitag has been expanding all over the world and their next stop? The Philippines! If you are interested in getting your hands on one of these one-offs, make sure to follow Urban Traveller & Co.’s social media accounts below as they will be selling the bags here in Manila very soon! In fact, they’ll be part of Spectre’s pop-up store in BGC this weekend!
I don’t know about you, but becoming eco-friendlier has become sort of a passion for me, and I can’t wait to add Freitag onto my list of ways to make the world a better place.
