Former Beauty Queen Under Fire for Expressing Hatred Towards Kpop

Former Miss Earth Philippines 2016 Imelda Schweighart is currently under fire for recent posts she made on Facebook about her opinions on Kpop music.

“I hate kpop,” she wrote out of the blue on Monday, November 23.

“Filipinos are losing their identity trying to be like Koreans. Konting pride, please?” she added in another post. “Di hamak na mas magaling naman mag-English ang mga Pinoy kesa Korean. Kala ko ba Chinese nananakop? I think we’re getting it wrong. Lagi nalang tayo sinasakop.”

[Translation: Filipinos are losing their identity trying to be like Koreans. A little pride, please? Filipinos are better at speaking English than Koreans anyway. I thought it’s the Chinese who are invading us? I think we’re getting it wrong. We’re always getting invaded.]

It is unclear what prompted her to post about the topic but she has since been drawing flak for it, with many Filipinos insisting that listening to Korean music, or music from other countries for that matter, does not make them any less Pinoy.

Schweighart is a rising musician herself and just released her 2020 album titled “Fuccboi” this year.

This isn’t the first time she has been the subject of controversy. Back when she won the title of Miss Earth Philippines in 2016, she had to relinquish her crown when she made scathing remarks about Miss Earth winner Katherine Espin of Ecuador, accusing her of having a “fake nose, fake chin, [and] fake boobs.”

As of writing, Schweighart’s Facebook page has been deactivated.
