For the Love of Leyte: Music & Arts Festival

1 FOR THE LOVE OF LEYTE POSTER 12x19 1

Five years have passed since Super Typhoon Haiyan/ Yolanda hit Leyte,  yet there is still a lot to be done. This year, in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of Haiyan,  Leyte will witness a non-profit, benefit arts and music festival to be held in The Farm at Ginsiyaman, San Miguel, Leyte on November 30 & December 1, 2018. The festival will celebrate the rebirth of Leyte, and will be a tribute to the many who took the time and effort to rebuild Leyte to where it is today.

Hosted in The Farm at Ginsiyaman, a sprawling farm just outside of Tacloban, the concert will feature two music stages, art grounds and on-site camping.  It will be an immersive two-day program of music, arts, and other cultural workshops. The festival will feature a two-day musical line up that includes international headliners, popular OPM bands, and many more Waray artists.

Festival attendees will also get free access to a trade fair and a series of workshops in TABO-AN HA GINSIYAMAN (Market at Ginsiyaman). The festival is intended not only to showcase the talent and creativity of Leytenos to tourists and attendees, but also to inspire and upskill Leyte artisans through learning from and collaborating with social entrepreneurs.

All festival attendees are promised a one-of-a-kind musical experience, and a glimpse of Leyte creative talent and the rich stories behind their craft.

At its core, the festival will champion sustainable tourism and development. It will re-introduce tourists to post-Yolanda Leyte, and will hopefully attract new supporters and advocates of Leyte creative industries. All proceeds of the festival will be channeled to the rebuilding of the Leyte arts, culture and tourism sector.

Our Mission

FOR THE LOVE OF LEYTE is a movement that will showcase and increase accessibility of local artisans.  Intended to be an annual gathering to celebrate and sustain creative talent in the region, FOR THE LOVE OF LEYTE will harness the strength and resilience of Leytenos through tourism and livelihood opportunities. It aims to kick-start long-term initiatives with the festival and for the years to come.

CREATING EMPOWERMENT AND CHANGE THROUGH MUSIC AND ARTS

In November 2013, Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the island and destroyed 70-80% of the structures in its path. There were over 6,000 casualties and up to 620,000 people were displaced across the region.

In this post-Yolanda era, the festival will kickstart a stream of initiatives to increase livelihood and economic activity in Leyte in different ways, notably:

Economically

By encouraging international and local tourists to travel to Leyte for the music and arts festival.

FOR THE LOVE OF LEYTE will host around 2,000 attendees, with the local Leyteno communities supplying all the talent, goods and services behind the festival production.

The festival will also revive economic growth of Leyte creative talent and industries by introducing them to festival attendees, and to the local and global marketplace post-festival.

Culturally

By reviving and incorporating Leyte traditional and cultural performances, e.g. oral traditions, weaving mats & baskets, music, dance and performance.

Artistically

By providing support to the continuous training and development of Leyte creative talent. The festival will mark the creation of an art collective to support and promote long-term creative programs and initiatives.
