Film Icon Amalia Fuentes Passes Away

In a heartbreaking turn of events, veteran actress Amalia Fuentes passed away this morning. She was 79.

Her nephew Niño Muhlach told radio DZMM that she was brought to the hospital a few days ago. This morning, she succumbed to multiple organ failure.

The news was confirmed by several of her relatives, including her granddaughter Alyanna Martinez, who posted a short message on Facebook.

She said, “She is now reunited with her husband Joey Stevens, our mother Anna-Lissa Martinez and her ex-husband, our Lolo Bobby. We have prayed for nothing but peace for her and now she can finally rest.”

Fuentes is a veteran actress who has been in the industry since the 1950s. She has been called the Elizabeth Taylor of the Philippines because of her beauty. Aside from her looks, she has been nominated for Best Actress at the FAMAS Awards nine times, bagging a nomination each year from 1965 to 1975 except 1969 and 1971.

Fuentes has worked with some of Manila’s best entertainers, including Fernando Poe Jr., Joseph Estrada, Eddie Gutierrez, Susan Roces, Gloria Romero, Vilma Santos, Christopher de Leon, Lorna Tolentino, Rudy Fernandez, and more.
