Filipino Graphic Novel ‘Trese’ Will Soon be an Animated Series on Netflix

Just a few months ago, our writer Carinna Reyes wrote an article entitled ‘8 Local Written Literature that We Think Should be TV Series‘. The piece of literature that was her number one spot? ‘Trese’. The last sentence (or question, rather) of her article? “So the bigger question is, why hasn’t Trese been turned to a series yet?”

Well, it seems that the Netflix gods heard her pleas because they have just announced that ‘Trese’ is finally being turned into an animated series on the streaming platform.

Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head-to-head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.

This anime series is based on the Philippine graphic novel by the same name, created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. With Alexandra being so witty, bad-ass, and inspiring, we simply cannot wait to see Netflix’s take on this komiks that is definitely make us scream “PINOY PRIDE!!!”
