Fil-Canadian Actor Gordon Cormier to Play Aang in Live-Action “Avatar: The Last Airbender”

Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have something to look forward to as a live-action series by Netflix is currently in the works. Here’s another exciting piece of news: Aang will be played by Filipino-Canadian actor Gordon Cormier!

Netflix describes Aang as “a fearless and fun-loving 12-year-old who just happens to be the Avatar, master of all four elements and the keeper of balance and peace in the world.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a war-torn world of elemental magic. A young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.

The animated series ran for three seasons on Nickelodeon, beginning in 2005. It has received critical acclaim and is noted for tackling themes such as war, genocide, imperialism, totalitarianism, and free choice. Many publications have called the show one of the best animated series of all time.

Prior to Avatar, Cormier has appeared in the series The Stand and Lost in Space.

He will be joined by Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

There’s still no release date for the Netflix adaptation.
