Fil-Am Transgender Woman One of Caitlyn Jenner's Inspiration

#BreakTheInternet.

That was the goal for Caitlyn Jenner’s stepdaughter Kim Kardashian, but it turned out it was Caitlyn who broke the Internet when she announced that she will transition from being Olympian Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn. After an emotional interview with Diane Sawyer, Bruce announced Caitlyn on a Vanity Fair cover that is set to become a future classic.

After the landmark cover (which saw her get 1.6 million followers on Twitter in four hours), it was announced that she’ll be having a docu-series on E! called I Am Cait. A trailer was recently released, but one trailer that caught our attention was the behind-the-scenes footage of her cover story for Vanity Fair. In it, she announced that one of her inspirations for her transition was Fil-Am transgender woman Geena Rocero.

According to Caitlyn:

We’ve had such a movement over the last 10 years, and understanding of these issues. We’ve had the Internet developed, where you can actually see other people who are going through the same struggle you’re going through. You can communicate with them and you find out you’re not alone. There’s a lot of intelligent women. You look at some of the people, the pioneers in trying to get the message out – Laverne Cox, Janet Mock, Geena Rocero, Carmen Carrera. Back in the 80’s, I was alone. And I’m kind of following in their footsteps.

Geena Rocero is a Manila-born transgender model and advocate who immigrated to San Francisco when she was 17. Later on, she founded Gender Proud, an advocacy and aid organization that stands up for the right of transgender people all over the world.
