Facebook Opens Office in the Philippines

Facebook has been a significant part of my daily life. And I know a significant number of my family, friends, and acquaintances have been actively using this social media channel every day. Therefore, it is somewhat expected that the social networking giant will have a local office soon.

And today, this becomes a reality.

Dan Neary, VP Asia Pacific at Facebook, made the following announcement via his Facebook Page:

I’m excited to share that Facebook opened its first office in the Philippines today. Over 49M Filipinos access Facebook every month to connect with their friends and loved ones – this is over 91% of the internet population. The Philippines is a highly engaged mobile-first nation filled with people who are creative, entrepreneurial and have a strong sense of community.

Filipinos have been sharing the unique moments that matter on Facebook with their friends and family, be it life milestones or a trending video. 2 in 3 Filipinos are connected a business Page on Facebook, and they’re using the platform to discover new brands and products.

Our team has already been partnering closely with businesses – small and large – in the Philippines; and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to grow together with our partners there.

Though the announcement mentioned the reasons for opening a local office, it isn’t apparent what its main role will be. Possibly, marketing?

However, aside from wanting to know the local office’s key functions, we’re more excited to see how Facebook Philippines office looks like. I’ve heard a lot of cool things about other Facebook offices. The one in Singapore is an envy for many. Looking forward to something like that here in the Philippines.
