F You This Guy Has a Message For the LRT and MRT (And He Wants You to Share It)

The train systems in the Philippines (especially the MRT) is not having a good year. First it was that incident of one train going past its stop along Taft Station and crashing through a busy intersection. Then the video caught of a train moving with one of its doors open. And the countless news, reports, tweets, and Facebook posts about a train malfunctioning. Then the biggest blow of the year: a fare hike that will raise the prices of train tickets by 50 to 87 percent.

Senators had their say about the fare hike. Generally, their message was to improve the quality of service before raising the fare. But will that help? Will their appeals to stop the fare increase work? Maybe we need to hear it from the common man. And Angelo Suarez is leading the way.

Earlier this year, Angelo posted an open letter on Facebook ranting about the shabby service of the MRT. His main complaint was that his insistence to improve its transportation sector was deleted by the team handling the Facebook page. There were also complaints from other people about their comments being deleted as well.

Now he’s back with another way to show his dissatisfaction with the MRT. It’s very simple. Give them the finger on the CCTV. According to Angelo:

Maki-‪#‎PakyuMRT‬! Dahil ang ‪#‎MRTbulok‬. Pati ‪#‎PPPbulok‬.

Here’s a rough translation:

A huge F you to the MRT. Let’s give the message back to them.

This is me in the train station this noon. My middle finger is for the DOTC-MRT3.

To oppose the fare hike, I encourage everyone to give the middle finger to the CCTV camera of the station you’re in. Ask a friend to watch the CCTV live stream on their website –  https://dotcmrt3.gov.ph/cctv.php – so they can screengrab you and unite against the government’s decision to prioritize business.

It sounds like an extreme way to get the message across, and we wonder: will this work? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
