Are you well-versed with the jazz scene here in the Philippines? If you are, then I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of the band Extrapolation! If you haven’t, don’t worry. Allow me to let you in on a couple of facts about this fun 8-piece ensemble from Manila.
Extrapolation is an independent jazz, funk, and soul band from Manila who has already established a name for themselves in the music industry. Though initially formed as a trio in 2006, the band has definitely grown through the years. Today, Extrapolation has eight quirky and diverse musicians with one goal in mind: to explore jazz’s vast musical diversity while still being unique and fresh. Hey, you couldn’t possibly have too much members as long as you’re making great tunes, am I right?

Over the years, Extrapolation has captured hearts (and ears!) through their music, may it be because of Isab Velasquez or Zia Quizon’s soothing voices, or the whole band’s entertaining performances. I assure you this – you won’t be disappointed when you watch them live or even listen to their music.
When asked about how they would describe their craft, they’d probably tell you that it’s “not your daddy’s jazz.” They are passionate about bringing their youthful sound and spirit to the scene, so expect to hear some kind of a twist to the usual jazz music!
They have performed in various events around Manila, such as Tokyo-Manila Jazz Festival and Fete dela Musique. They are also well-distinguished for their performances in Jazz Thursdays, specifically in Bar 1951, The Brewery, and Greenfield District.
No matter how much I describe them and what they do, it’s always better to come see them live! Though they have been on hiatus since their last EP launch 4 years ago, they are definitely back with some awesome tunes to instantly get you hooked. Consider yourself lucky, as a new album is in the works! They are releasing a whole set of original works by 2018. To kick this off, Extrapolation is launching their newest single, Sunshine Blue, on September 28, 2017 (Thursday) at 9 pm. As a treat, the song drops along with a music video.
The launch will be held at the newest millennial hangout, DULO, in collaboration with their bi-monthly production Voodoo Child. Voodoo Child features a mix of rock n’ roll, blues, and funk bands or DJs. Playing alongside them are Mariang Palad, Mobster Manila, and The Crashers.
