Experiencing Local Band Hey Moonshine’s Newest Song “Love, Peace, Justice and Life”

“Give love to the world and sing hallelujah.”

This recurring line captures the entire theme of Hey Moonshine’s latest single entitled “Love, Peace, Justice and Life.” According to lead guitarist Bryan Gatmaitan, the song is a simple message from the band asking everyone to live without hate.

For those who have not yet been introduced to this unique band, Hey Moonshine is a southern rock band, and one of a kind. Their songs are usually embellished by distinctive elements such as a harmonica, soul-singing female backup vocals, and a bunch of different guitar riffs. They are able to pull this off even in live settings because of their number, being an eight-piece rock band. What makes this band more unique is the relevancy of their songs. They sing songs about peace, camaraderie, freedom, and self-empowerment.

In 2019, the band was signed under Viva Records. Since then, they have been releasing songs here and there. Some people may remember their debut single called “We’ll Break This War” which was timely released when there had been a threat of conflict happening around the world. Lately, they released a song about women empowerment in collaboration with the Crystal Voice of Asia, Sheryn Regis. The song is entitled “Ilang Beses.”

On February 26, Hey Moonshine released a song with is probably their best creation yet. And coming from a technically profound band such as Hey Moonshine, that is saying something. “Love, Peace, Justice and Life” starts out with some bluesy and funky lines embroidered with a lot of guitar riffs and soulful backup vocals. The song is topped with a simple but captivating vocal melody. As the song progresses, it transforms into something deeper. Though the tempo never changed, the song felt heavier and thicker. Then comes the guitar solo, where the listeners might feel that they are transported to a magical world filled with colors. And just as you thought it can’t get any better, Hey Moonshine introduces a soulful choir that brings the house down. It makes the song louder yet more relaxing. And when everything is in full throttle, the band suddenly ends with a single female voice trailing off with the words “give love to the world and sing.”

“Love, Peace, Justice and Life” is not just any song. It’s an amazing and wonderful and whole new experience.
