Experiencing Hair Fall? This Supplement Might Help Solve That

I noticed something during the quarantine: my hair started falling, and fast. I’d always find several strands in my hands and there were clumps of hair in the shower drain in just a few days. I’m a man in my early thirties so I started panicking. When this problem persisted for the next few weeks, I asked myself, am I going bald?

I set out to do something about so I checked a popular Facebook group where people ask for recommendations. I was surprised at the number of people who asked for recommendations for hair fall. There was a post about it almost every month and there were dozens of replies. It turns out that hair loss during the pandemic is a recognized thing because of stress. Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal, an associate professor of dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic, said, “There are many, many stresses in many ways surrounding this pandemic, and we’re still seeing hair loss because a lot of the stress hasn’t gone away.”

I browsed through some of the popular posts on the Facebook group saw that one of the most common responses was biotin. Another popular response was gugo shampoo and we wrote about it here. We also recommended gugo shampoo you can buy online in the post.

What is biotin? It’s also known as vitamin H, and is a B complex vitamin that helps the body convert food into energy. It’s also known to keep hair healthy. Its other benefits include regulating blood sugar; promoting healthy skin, eyes, nails, and nervous system; and helping pregnant moms have healthier babies.

There’s not a lot of research or evidence to suggest biotin promotes hair growth. Dr. Erica Walters, an aesthetic medicine practitioner and medical director at Park Avenue Skin Solutions and Tribeca Wellness Collective, has said, “there is minimal scientific evidence that biotin alone has a dramatic effect on hair growth or health, and I would not recommend it as a solo treatment because the key to treating hair loss is a holistic approach.”

Studies in 2012 and 2015, however, found that “participants perceived improvement in hair growth and quality after 90 and 180 days.” And the number of people who recommended it on Facebook might mean that it is effective.
