On Tuesday, it was announced that the team behind the hit series Game of Thrones are commissioned to create new Star Wars movies. Apparently, Lucasfilm aims to produce a bankable franchise.
The announcement was made via an Instagram post.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the people behind the Emmy Award-winning TV series, will write and produce new films that are separate from the main Skywalker saga and the trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The post had a caption, “Send a raven. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going from #Westeros to a galaxy far, far away.”
Lucasfilm did not mention how many movies would comprise the new series or announce release dates.
