When Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub from the GMA noontime show Eat Bulaga rose into popularity, rumors about her auditioning previously as a housemate for Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) went viral. However, the rumors were never confirmed until recently when director Lauren Dyogi released a vlog, which included a clip of Maine’s PBB audition.

On the vlog, he revealed that he made some “bad calls” when scouting for talents.
As an example, he mentioned Nadine Lustre, who auditioned for the Teen Clash of 2010 edition of PBB. Now, Nadine is a major talent with a massive following. She is the other half of JaDine, a popular love team. The other half is her real-life boyfriend James Reid, the winner of that same PBB season she auditioned for.
Included in the vlog is a clip showing Maine’s audition. She introduced herself as a 20-year-old culinary arts graduate working for a family business. She mentioned in her audition about Dubsmash videos, which were also the reason for her rise to popularity.
When it comes to these, direk Lauren said, “Siyempre, isang tao lang ako. Marami pang ibang opportunities o avenues para sumikat. Marami na akong misses in the past. Maraming nag-audition sa akin na hindi ko napansin, pero sikat na sila ngayon.”
He also said, “That’s a bad call on my part. But then again, gano’n talaga. Siguro hindi ako ang kanilang kapalaran.”
