On a post via Cinema One Original’s Facebook page, transgender comedienne Iyah Mina was awarded as “Best Actress” at the 2018 Cinema One Original Awards Night held at the Dolphy Theater in Quezon City on Sunday.

More than just celebrating #IAmOriginal, we also celebrate equality! Today, we made history as Iyah Mina is the first transgender woman to win Best Actress in Philippine Cinema.
In her heart-warming speech, she declares, “Babae akooo!!! True?!”
Iyah Mina played the role of an aging transgender sex worker in the thought-provoking film Mamu; And a Mother too.
She is the first transgender to win the top actress award in the annual film festival.
