The 29-year-old American singer opens up suffering from an eating disorder called hiatal hernia for the past decade. This is a “condition in which part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm muscle”, according to Yahoo! News.

Carter explained that he is lactose intolerant and a “stress condition of an 80-year-old man”. “[I weigh] 135, 140. Yeah, I’m 5’8″. [Doctors] said avoid stress. Because I can develop cancer.”

Carter kept his condition away from the public eye and admits that he himself is having a hard time looking at himself in the mirror. He also mentions how hurtful the posts on social media are being addressed to him for how he currently looks. Through tears, he apologized “for the way that he looks” and also assured that he “will go to a training camp called D1 Combine Training and [I’m] going to transform my body. And get healthy.”

Carter remains optimistic despite his struggles.

“To keep it 100 percent with you, there are so many other guys out there that have been reaching out to me on Twitter that have said, ‘Thank you so much Aaron, you’re the first man that stepped up about weight issues. I’m actually becoming a voice for people who are going through this.”

“You don’t [see it a lot with male celebrities] but it does happen. A lot more,” he continued. “The difference is, men are a lot more prideful. We don’t want to admit it. I don’t want to admit I don’t look good.”

Get well soon, Carter! We’re right behind you all the way!
