EMULSYON Presents Two Plays Exploring the Effect of Martial Law

Apothecary Productions proudly presents Emulsyon, a twin bill featuring two one-act plays: Loyalist Redux by Kรคnakรคn-Balintagos and Indigo Child by Rody Vera. These powerful productions explore the intergenerational trauma and political repercussions of Martial Law in the Philippines through the complex relationships between mothers and sons.

Indigo Child tells the poignant story of a son confronting his motherโ€™s painful experience of being detained during the Marcos regime. Inspired by the real-life experiences of Adora Faye de Vera, the play examines the lingering effects of trauma, as the mother undergoes therapy while the son embarks on a journey to find resolution.

Meanwhile, Loyalist Redux portrays the ideological clash between a Marcos loyalist mother and her activist son. This intense confrontation underscores the struggle between political beliefs and family ties, offering a poignant reflection on the dictatorshipโ€™s corrosive impact on families.

In a bid to raise awareness about the lived experiences of those profoundly affected by Martial Law, audiences can contribute to our cause. For every five tickets sold, a student or beneficiary will receive a free ticket to watch the performance.

Emulsyon marks Apothecary Productions’ inaugural project, serving as a laboratory theater pushing artistic boundaries. Founded by Heart Romero, the company aims to elevate experimental works while expanding into artistic events, music, and film.
