Duolingo’s popular owl mascot, Duo, is gone.

On February 11, the language learning app announced his passing through a humorous statement, emphasizing that the authorities are currently investigating the cause of his death.
“It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mascot, Duo the Owl,” the post read.

“Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know. We are aware he had many enemies, but we kindly ask that you refrain from sharing why you hate him in the comments. If you feel inclined to share, please also include your credit card number so we can automatically sign you up for Duolingo Max in his memory,” it quipped.

Meanwhile, on TikTok, Duolingo shared a video of its characters Lily and Zari carrying Duo’s coffin and putting it in a pickup truck.

This sparked rebranding rumors among Duolingo users, with some wondering if it was related to Drake, as the app had previously posted a photo of Duo with the caption, “Say Drake.”
Many users, including Netflix, paid tribute to Duo, raising further questions. On Instagram, Netflix posted a clip of Duo being eliminated from the hit series “Squid Game.”

Duolingo’s official social media pages now feature a profile picture of Duo with his tongue sticking out and โXโ marks in his eyes.
