DOLE to dole out free bikes to discharged workers interested in delivery service

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to give out free bikes to workers who were discharged due to the COVID-19 pandemic and want to get into delivery service.

The program is set to take place next week. It involves giving out 900 bikes. Recipients of the bicycles will undergo training on traffic regulations, financial literacy, and occupational safety and health standards, Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns Director Karina Perida-Trayvilla said on Thursday.

The recipients will also get an insulation bag, protective helmet, reflective vest, bike rack, cellphone, and load wallet.

She said that the labor bureau teamed up with Grab and Lalamove.

People interested in the program may apply in DOLE field offices.

The program will be rolled out in Mandaluyong, Pasig, Muntinlupa, and Manila. Later on, DOLE also plans to distribute bikes in Cebu and other provinces.
