The Philippines’ Department of Health confirmed today (July 6) the second case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) in the country, according to a news post on CNN Philippines.

The first case was a Filipina nurse from Saudi Arabia who tested positive in April and has now recovered.

A foreigner has tested positive and is now in isolation at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

According to Health Secretary Janette Garin, the foreigner traveled from the Middle East.

The male patient, who had cough and fever, was referred to RITM last Saturday (July 4) at around 11:30AM. The results came out at around 5PM.

Individuals who were in close contact with the patient are being identified and tracked down. One was also put in isolation after exhibiting symptoms.

What precautionary measures should be taken to prevent this from spreading?
