De La Salle College of Medicine Rolls Out The Red Carpet

It is an understatement to say that medical students have it rough for the most part of an academic year, regardless of the year they are currently in. With studying for short quizzes and long exams, practicing and developing skills for physical diagnosis, researching for numerous written outputs, there isn’t really much time for them to squeeze-in their personal hobbies, let alone get a full night’s rest. As a result, by the end of the year, the students become exhausted and stressed out with energy levels far below than when they started the academic year. To help alleviate some of the stress, the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute – College of Medicine Student Council (DLSMHSI-CMSC), in partnership with WhenInManila.com, Tanduay Rhum, and The One Dasma Place Residences and Dormitory, presents The Medicine Ball 2018: Archer Awards.

This year marks the second year that the DLSMHSI-CMSC has hosted the Medicine Ball since about 20 years ago. The Medicine Ball is meant to serve as an avenue for relieving stress not only for the medical students, but also for their professors and mentors. The event also aims to temporarily dismantle the hierarchical social construct among students and those above them as it provides a channel for light and fun interactions outside an academic setting. In addition, it is also an opportunity for everyone to pamper themselves, put on some makeup, dress up and show off their best selves in their fanciest suits and snazziest dresses. Awards will also be given to the most debonair gentleman and the most elegant lady who will attend the event.

What is there to expect from the Medicine Ball? Just the grandest ball for medical students ever!  There will be photo booths, a sumptuous dinner, lots of Instagrammable places (‘cause we know how important the ‘gram is), and free-flowing drinks. Not only that, you will also get to see one of the hottest OPM bands of the recent years, live! But of course, it won’t be called “The Archer Awards” without the actual awards, right? In addition to the usual awards given at proms and graduation balls, there will also be special awards given at the event. What those awards are, you just have to go to find out.

Still not convinced? While you get to have fun, drink and sing to your heart’s content, you can also bring smiles to other people’s faces. How? Part of the funds collected from the ticket sales will be donated to the scholars of the institution to help fund their scholarships. Having fun while contributing to a good cause doesn’t sound like a bad deal, right? You would not only be having the time of your life, but you’d also be helping others.

While all of these sound enticing, you might be thinking, “Will I be able to go even if I’m not a student of DLSMHSI College of Medicine?” Why, yes you can! The event is open to all just as long as you are invited by a person from the college – be it a faculty member, an intern, a resident, staff or a student! So grab your tickets now and experience the most glamorous night of the medical students! See you there; The red carpet awaits!
