De La Salle Araneta Will Hold a SUPERHERO Pet Show

The Society and Lady Society for the Advancement of Veterinary Education and Research (SAVER & Lady SAVER), a certified academic organization that has been in the industry since 1977, is the largest and one of the highly acclaimed organization in the De La Salle Araneta University, former Gregorio Araneta University Foundation Est. 1946 and is located on Malabon city. DLSAU (GAUF) is also the only university that offers Veterinary Medicine course in Metro Manila.

The Society and Lady Society for the Advancement of Veterinary Education and Research (SAVER & Lady SAVER) is guided by their principles; Professionalism, Excellence and Brotherhood/Sisterhood, the organization directs it activities to mold its members to become veterinary professionals and be of good service to the community.

In line with this, the organization spearheaded one of their major activities of the year, a SUPERHERO themed pet show, titled “Pet kong maluPet” on October 12, 2019 at the Institutional Activity Center of the De La Salle Araneta University. The show will host different species of exotic pets and different breeds of dogs and cats. The event will cover different segments such as the exotic show, dog show (best in small & medium breed) in which the physical appearance and their standard characteristics will be judged including the relationship between pet and owner. Next is the dog & cat fashion show wherein the contestants will be judged primarily with the design of their pet, and their own, superhero costume.

The event is supported by different pet groups like Cats & Dogs Fashionistas, Freedom Flyers, Pilipinas Free flight, Dogs Unleashed, Camanava Pack, Ph Poodle owners, Chihuahua Club of the Philippines and Boston terrier tribe.

With a superhero-themed petshow, SAVER/LadySAVER decided to honor Hound Haven PH, which is the main beneficiary of the event as it cares and rehabilitates for retired Military Working Dogs (MWDs) from the Philippine Army and Contract Working Dogs (CWDs) employed by private security agencies that work for explosives and drug detection. An average K-9 is of service for about 8-15 years and after spending their lifetime working, they need a place to stay in after their retirement and hopefully find a permanent home for the rest of their lives. At Hound Haven PH, they are cared for and are given behavioral training to prepare them for possible pet adoption and become normal family pets.

FINAL POSTER FOR PET SHOW

SAVER/LadySAVER residents will volunteer at Hound Haven PH center to bring in sponsored goods and proceeds from the petshow to help the shelter in caring for these superhero dogs. An honorary award will also be given to two of Hound Haven Ph’s resident K-9s. SAVER/LadySAVER believe that these dogs deserve the said award for their good service in the community.

SAVER/LadySAVER will also give an honorary award to the therapy dogs Kimchi. Ginger and T-bone owned by Mr. Eric Suguitan. One of his dogs is a blind American Cocker Spaniel named Kimchi and was rescued from the streets of Alabang on 2012. It was a match made in heaven when Mr. Eric’s golden retriever mix, Ginger, became her guide dog. Since then Mr. Eric brings them to different places for an animal assisted intervention and as ambassadors of CARA welfare, where the dogs enjoy the attention and in return provides emotional support and have raised money for the shelter. The trio was also featured on different online blogs and TV shows. This has become Ginger’s (Golden retriever mix) legacy after her untimely crossing of the rainbow bridge last February. To keep her alive, Kimchi the blind spaniel is then guided by another one of Mr. Eric’s dog, T-Bone also a golden Retriever to continue in providing emotional support, they usually attend events on different universities.

Guided by our principles, Professionalism, Excellence, Brotherhood and Sisterhood, we aim to help and reach a bigger audience as we continue the legacy that our brothers and sisters have started one step at a time.
