Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo recently took their relationship to the next level — that’s right, these partners in life are now partners in business, too! The two took the leap just last October 26 when their barbershop officially opened. This new venture is actually a year in the making, with the couple discussing the prospect of opening a business together for some time now.

In an interview with Pep.ph, Daniel explained the reasoning behind opening a barbershop. For him, “malapit sa akin paggugupit dahil ako mismo, medyo maselan ako sa gupit ko, e. So, gusto lang natin i-share iyon kasi hindi lang naman ako iyong ganoon. Maraming mga lalake na ganoon naman, medyo maaarte sa gupit natin.”
[Cutting hair is close to me because personally, I am picky with my haircuts. So we want to share that because I’m not the only one who is like that. There are a lot of men who are also like that, a bit high-maintenance with their haircuts.]
More interestingly, he dishes on what it has been like to own a business with Kathryn and how it has affected their relationship with each other. So far, Daniel describes the partnership with Kathryn as “masaya. Sinasabi ko masaya dahil, you know, hindi lang kami nandoon lang sa mundo ng showbiz. Kundi meron na rin kami ganito sa labas.”
[Happy. I say it’s happy because, you know, we’re not just in the world of showbiz anymore. Now, we have something like this outside of that world.]
“Ang ganda kasi growth din siya… Ang ganda na siya ang kasama ko pa sa ganitong venture. Nag-go-grow kami as individuals and as partners. Saka ang dami naming natutunan. Dapat na ang dami nating learnings dahil tumatanda na tayo.”
[Her growth is really something good. And it’s even better that she is my partner in this kind of venture. We grow as individuals and as partners. And there is so much that we are learning. It’s only right that our learnings increase since we are already getting older.]

In another interview, Kathryn shares her own thoughts on the business partnership. She first pragmatically says that “I think it’s good to invest on something na ganito, hindi iyong saan mo ilalagay pera mo. At least ito, sure ka may napupuntahan iyong pinagpaguran.”
[I think it’s good to invest on something like this, it’s not where you put your money. At least with this, you’re sure what you worked for is going somewhere.]
On their chemistry together, she shares that it is definitely an advantage to have Daniel on board. She says, “Of course, nakatulong si DJ kasi itong designing, itong logo, siya iyan lahat, e. Kasi kung sa akin niyo iyan ipapahawak, iba ang execution ko as a girl. Feeling ko advantage, and marami tumutulong sa amin sa business side naman like si Mama and everyone naman. Natututo kami sa process.”
[Of course, DJ was able to help with the designing, the logo, it was all him. Because if that was given to me to work on, the execution would be different as a girl. I feel like it is an advantage, and there are a lot of people helping us out on the business side, like Mama and everyone else. We are learning in the process.]

Kathryn continues to rain praise on Daniel as a “meticulous” worker, always looking into the small details. She expounds: “Marami ako natututunan sa kanya sa buong process na ito na, ‘Ah, ganito pala siya kapag sa business side.’ Sa tao, kung paano niya i-handle.
“Parang, pinapabayaan ko lang siya kasi diskarte naman niya ngayon this time. Ine-enjoy lang namin ngayon. Parang kami naglalaro. Pero siyempre, nandiyan sina Mama to guide us kasi ito, barbershop, first ever ito. Maraming bago, hindi lahat magiging smooth, but we’re here to learn.”
[I am learning a lot from him in this whole process. ‘Ah, this is how he is on the business side.’ As for people, I get to see how he handles them.
It’s like, I let him be since it’s up to him now. We are just enjoying it now. It’s as if we’re playing. But of course, Mama is right there to guide us since this barbershop is our first business ever. There’s a lot of new things, not everything will turn out smoothly, but we’re here to learn.]
