An individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 lined up to claim her cash subsidy in Barangay Escopa 4, Quezon City. She had already been tested for the disease but had not yet received results at the time.
According to a 24 Oras report by Darlene Cay on Wednesday, the 49-year-old female lined up with 368 other beneficiaries from the same barangay on April 25. She previously consulted medical professionals on April 16 due to difficulties with breathing.
She was tested on the same day but was sent home for quarantine as she was only exhibiting mild symptoms. Her test results came back as positive for COVID-19 on the night of April 25.
“Sabi ko sa kaniya, ‘Bakit di mo sinabi sa’kin na nagpa-swab test ka pala para sana na-quarantine kita hanggang sa lumabas ‘yung result mo?’” Barangay chairman Laila Arcega said. “‘Di na rin daw po niya alam kung anong gagawin niya.”
[“I told her: why didn’t you tell that you had a swab test done so I could have quarantined you until the results were out? She said that she didn’t know what to do.”]
Barangay officials worked quickly with the City Health Office to isolate the patient the very next day. She is currently admitted to the Lung Center of the Philippines and is in stable condition.
They have also begun contact-tracing, identifying 20 other residents of Barangay Escopa 4, two barangay staff, and the patient’s relatives.
