Could This Seat Design Make Traveling Coach More Comfortable

Budget airlines and promos have democratized travel and made it accessible to anyone with a passport. These days, you don’t need hundreds of thousands of pesos to fly to Hong Kong for a weekend of shopping or to Bangkok for a dose of culture. However, affordable travel equates to ungodly flight hours, no meals, and uncomfortable seating. Just ask this writer, who stands 5’11” and has to struggle to fit in the cramped seats.

But a design by UK-based creative design agency Factorydesign could change all that. The twister seat, designed by creative director Adam White, could revolutionize traveling coach.

The ergonomic design allows the seat to move with the passenger in any position, instead of the usual back and forth adjustments. The seat follows the movement of the human spine, promising comfort for both short-haul and long-haul flights.

This kind of comfort already exists in business and first class, but White says that airlines need to rethink what all passengers need on flights. To date, the design is still a prototype.
