Many fans have since criticized her over her reactions, calling it insensitive to struggling actors, as well as the cast and crew of the show.
I donโt understand why sheโs being so ungrateful towards her employerโthat put her on the map. I had no idea she existed prior to this show. I understand there are many opportunities out there; but you made a commitment. Be thankful you donโt work a boring 9-5 like most folk. pic.twitter.com/YxSgtYUeAl

Just think about all the actors and crews today that shows didn’t get renewed and are devastated. So maybe you shouldn’t be so upset that yours got renewed.

Following the initial backlash, the actress explained in a Tweet that her reactions were “ill-timed” and that she was “grateful” for the show’s renewal.
Todays tweets were on the heels of rough day&were ill timed w/the news of the show. Plz know, Im so grateful for FOTB renewal. I love the cast&crew. Im proud to be a part of it. For all the fans support, thank u & for all who support my casual use of the word fuck-thank u too?

However, the actress said in an official statement that her anger was caused by her having to let go of another opportunity that she claimed would have given her “artistic challenge” instead of the “comfort and ease” of reprising her role inย Fresh Off the Boat.
She acknowledged that her words may have been insensitive to struggling actors who didn’t have the privilege she now has for having options.
She ended her apology by expressing her love and gratitude to the cast and crew of the show, but still admitted her conflicted feelings over the renewal. She also alluded to the #MeToo movement by thanking her supporters for hearing her side and for making “the choice to believe women.”

Since her public apology, many have continued to criticize her for her choice of words while others showed their support.
I just don’t believe this. I understand you had to give up a project, but… Constance I would love to be in your shoes right now. You should’ve spoken to the producers privately instead of publicly dissing the show that has launched your career ??

Whilst I get you were disappointed about the renewal and how it affected the other project… it was the tone, the immaturity (“dislike”) and lack of consideration for the cast/crew who might not have the privilege of other opportunities that left a bad taste ?

It’s sad that people aren’t even trying to understand how you feel about the situation and instead are only going off about how you’re ungrateful for the shows renewal and everything…
It’s almost like they’ve never had a creative drive or passion before…

Yet if this was any other actor/actress, you all would be behind them 100%. Just because a role gave her spotlight, doesn’t mean it allows for growth. Ultimately, that’s what we want in a job is growth.
